THE OPENING of the new Kirkby Learning Centre has been brought forward.
The Office of the Schools Adjudicator granted an application by Knowsley Council to bring forward the date for the merger of Ruffwood Community Secondary and Brookfield High Schools from September 2009 to September 2008.
The modification was approved by the adjudicator, Dr Philip Hunter.
A wide-ranging shake-up of Knowsley’s secondary school system is currently under way, with all 11 of Knowsley’s high schools being closed and replaced with eight new learning centres.
The eight centres will be open all hours so the community can use sporting, computing and learning facilities.
Council officials describe the new learning centres as “more suited to 21st century learning.”
All the centres are being built on or near existing sites.
