A TEENAGER who was the unsuspecting getaway driver for three armed robbers has been spared jail – on his 19th birthday.
Talented sportsman Craig Dunn thought he was giving friends a lift for some extra cash.
But Liverpool Crown Court heard the teenager had no idea while he was waiting for the trio, they were actually raiding a nearby pub. The three masked men stormed into the Chepstow Castle pub on County Road, Walton, at 1.15am on August 13, threatening the remaining drinkers with a hand-gun.
The raiders forced licensee Suzanne Moon to the safe, emptying it of £12,000 and some envelopes with money in, before fleeing in Dunn’s black Vauxhall.
When police pulled the car over half-an-hour later for speeding, the front-seat passenger fled and the police found driver Dunn had more than £600 in cash on him.
Judge Phipps suspended a 12-month prison sentence for two years and ordered Dunn, of Tithebarn Road in Knowsley, to do 150 hours unpaid work and pay £625 in costs.
