Dogs to sniff out the drug pushers

DRUG dogs are being drafted into pubs in Ellesmere Port to rid them of illegal substances.

The dogs are to be used as part of the town’s PubWatch's zero tolerance approach to drug possession and use.

Jimmy Silker, chairman of Ellesmere Port PubWatch, said: “Drugs are not welcome in licensed premises. They are illegal and often lead to violence towards customers and staff.

“The use of the dogs will hopefully act as a deterrent in reducing violence in the pubs of the town.”

In the coming weeks dogs and staff from K9 Support Services Ltd will be accompanied by police and council officers in visits to a number of licensed premises in the town.

The dogs will be used inside and on the doors of the pubs.
