A FORMER soldier fractured his best friend’s cheek after losing control while on a night out in Liverpool.
Ex-squaddie Adrian Wardrop punched Philip Wood twice in the face after becoming aggressive following a night of drinking.
The 31-year-old, became agitated after visiting Merseyside bars on June 24 last year.
After leaving a club the two men and their girlfriends went to a takeaway where Wardrop began to punch a wall.
As his temper flared he became abusive to Mr Wood’s partner, but when his friend intervened, Wardrop turned on him.
The attack left Mr Wood, from York, with a depressed cheekbone.
Yesterday Wardrop, of Ronald Avenue, Kinmel Bay, Rhyl, was spared prison after Judge William George heard from his former army bosses he had “stirling qualities”.
Wardrop, admitted one count of causing grievous bodily harm, received a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years and given a two-year supervision order. .
