Summer sunshine in the middle of February will give way to winter chill by Friday

MERSEYSIDERS have been basking in warm temperatures almost double that of the seasonal average, according to weather experts.

This time last year the region was covered in snow, but yesterday, unusually warm conditions meant that thermometers in the region were reaching highs of up to 14 degrees.

On average, temperatures in February hit around the 6-8 degree mark.

Yesterday, Trawscoed in Wales recorded the hottest temperature in the UK on February 12 since 1896.
