Decision deferred on bus fines

A DECISION on fining bus drivers with on-the-spot fines if they park up with the engines running in Liverpool city centre has been deferred.

Liverpool City Council’s executive board decided to postpone making the decision for a week after concerns were raised by Cllr Peter Millea, who leads the Liberal Democrats on Merseytravel.

A proposal was put to the board to spend £100,000 on special stop-off points where buses can “lay over” without causing a nuisance.

Council officials have lost patience with vehicles stopping and pumping out choking exhaust fumes while they wait to set off on their next route.

It follows complaints from pedestrians.
