Brookside’s des res on the market for £2m

ONE of the most famous addresses in TV soapland is up for sale.

Auctioneers SHM Smith Hodgkinson are inviting offers in the region of £2m for all 13 houses which make up Brookside Close.

The TV series, created by Phil Redmond, was one of the first programmes aired on the new Channel 4 when it launched in 1982, and continued until it was controversially axed in 2003.

It made stars of Ricky Tomlinson, Sue Johnstone and Amanda Burton.

Viewings will begin in the next few weeks, with the auctioneers only considering offers from developers or wealthy individuals for the whole set.

The houses – which include a row of terraces, a bungalow and semi-detached and detached homes – were bought by Mr Redmond for £25,000 each in 1982.

But SHM Smith Hodgkinson is hopeful the properties, sitting on a 1½-acre site in the desirable Deysbrook Lane area of West Derby, will now fetch at least £2m as a job lot. Surveyor Mark Gill said: “The history behind them should add even more interest, and the development will go on sale within the next few weeks.

“They are all structurally sound, but they will need considerable work inside as they have just sat empty pretty much since the show finished.

“We will be inviting offers for the whole set, but it is likely whoever buys them will then individually sell or let the houses.”
