Money available for lunch clubs

ORGANISATIONS across Wirral are being invited to apply for funding to develop or continue running luncheon clubs for older people.

After reviewing its arrangements for funding luncheon clubs for older people, Wirral Council has decided to introduce new funding criteria from April 2009.

There are currently around 40 luncheon clubs in Wirral, run by voluntary organisations, community associations, churches and other groups.

Only a small proportion of these receive financial support from the council, mainly located in the eastern half of Wirral.

The new arrangements will not result in a reduction in funding, and are intended to be fairer and more open.

The deadline for applications is March 31, 2008.
