Motorist drove at police officer

A MOTORIST who reversed in to the path of a police officer in a bid to escape has been spared prison.

James Doran was seen by officers in an unmarked police car picking a woman up from a telephone box in Kirkstone Road North, Litherland.

When officers put their lights on and pulled Doran over he initially stopped, but as a woman police officer got out to confront the pair, the driver suddenly reversed towards her.

Judge David Swift said: “When a female officer got out of the car and went round the back to intercept the woman who had got out of the car, Doran suddenly reversed off, speeding back to the roundabout.

“At that time, the police officer was behind his van and she had to jump clear.”

Doran, 47, of Amanda Road, Fazakerley, had denied dangerous driving on August 8 last year, but was found guilty by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court.

Doran was given a community order, with supervision for 12 months and a drug rehabilitation requirement for six months.

He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months and will have to take an extended driving test.
