Scene of murder in Croxteth
MERSEYSIDE Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a man was discovered in woodland.
Last night officers named the 38-year-old as Mark John Corkhill.
A man out walking his dog found the body at 2pm on Monday in a field near to Dam Wood, Croxteth.
Early indications from an ongoing post mortem show gunshot wounds to the legs.
Detectives investigating the death believe the man died because of a local dispute.
There is no indication of links to the Rhys Jones shooting or any gang-related activity in the Croxteth and Norris Green areas.
Detective Chief Superintendent Peter Currie said: “Even at this early stage, we have positive lines to pursue, both in terms of motive and those we believe are responsible”.
Detectives are keen to talk to anyone who may have seen Mr Corkhill after 9.30pm on Sunday, February 17.
He was wearing brown boots, blue jeans, a green short sleeved T-shirt and a grey zip-up top.
Police give his description as a white man, about 5ft 8in tall, of slim build with short black hair.
Anyone with any information about the incident should call 0151 777 4565 or call Crimestoppers anonymously 0800 555 111.
