Boy shot by gunmen

A 16-year-old boy was injured after being targeted by gunmen, police said today.

The youth suffered minor injuries and took himself to hospital where the attack was reported to Merseyside Police last night.

Detectives believe the incident happened in Melbury Road, Huyton, at around 6.30pm.

They want to speak to two males who were seen riding a small off-road motorbike in the area at the time of the shooting.

Inspector George Dawson said: “The motive for this attack remains unclear however we do suspect it was a targeted shooting.

“The victim attended hospital prior to the incident being reported to police.

“His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.”

The area around Melbury Road was sealed off last night for forensic examinations.

House to house inquires are taking place along with high visibility patrols.
