THREE people have been arrested and detained overnight for questioning after a man was found dead at the foot of a flight of stairs.
Paramedics were called to flats at a parade of shops along Childwall Lane, Huyton, at 6.10am yesterday. They swiftly reported to police that a 39-year-old man had been found unconscious and seriously injured after an apparent fall.
The victim was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital where he was announced dead on arrival.
Forensic experts set up a tent near the Sayers bakery and cordoned off a section of the area in order to collect evidence about what led to the fatality.
Force incident manager Insp Mike Jarman said: “The victim had been drinking with friends the previous night in a local pub and police are trying to ascertain exactly how he sustained his injuries.
“A 28-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman and a 26-year-old woman, all from Huyton, and who had all been in the flat at the time of the incident have been arrested.
“The friends have been taken to various police stations around Merseyside for questioning by detectives.”
A Home Office postmortem is likely to be opened this morning but police have declined to reveal the identity of the dead man.
Anyone can help police with their investigation is asked to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
