Judges pay visit as slavery museum shortlisted for £100k national award

A TOP judging panel have spent the day in Liverpool to see if one of the city’s museums is worthy of a £100,000 prize.

Liverpool’s International Slavery Museum has been shortlisted as one of 10 museums from across the UK vying for the Art Fund Prize.

Broadcaster Sue MacGregor CBE, chairwoman of the 2008 judging panel, spent the day at the Albert Dock with fellow judges Maggie Semple OBE, Dr Mark Miodownik and Diane Lees who is director of the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood in London.

The judges are travelling around the country visiting each museum to meet staff, tour the facility and hear about plans for future development.

Following visits to the museums including The British Library, London, and The Pier Arts Centre, in Orkney, a shortlist of four museums will be announced in early April. The winner will be announced in May during Museum and Galleries month.
