Warning over Post Office move

POST office customers are being urged to speak out plans to convert Liverpool’s busiest Post Office into a WHSmith franchise.

The Post Office is proposing to change the flagship Crown Post Office, in St John’s Shopping Centre, to one managed by the high street retailer.

This will be located on South John Street, in Liverpool One, more than half a kilometre from the existing service.

Postwatch Northern England is concerned the proposals are not tenable if other Post Offices are closed as planned in the area.

A spokesman said: “It is essential that customers, representative bodies and other interested parties express their views on this considering the effect of the other planned local closures.

“Our major concern with any franchise operation is that standards of services are upheld and customers have adequate access.”

Should the plans go ahead, Postwatch has vowed to monitor the new arrangement.
