Museums chairman to call it a day

LIVERPOOL museums boss Loyd Grossman is to quit in the middle of Capital of Culture year.

The 57-year-old TV presenter has been chairman of National Museums Liverpool (NML) for three years and is former vice-chairman of the Liverpool Culture Company.

Yesterday Boston-born Mr Grossman said there had been no falling out with NML.

He said he believed it was the right time to hand over the reins.

The Through the Keyhole and Masterchef presenter will step down on July 1. He became chairman in April 2005.

Mr Grossman said: “The last five years have been really fascinating and very exciting, and it’s been a real privilege leading the team at NML – the accomplishments have been pretty sensational. I think now’s the right time to stand down and let a new chairman take over.”

An NML spokesman maintained it was “business as usual” at the organisation’s seven sites.

He said: “The Department for Media, Culture and Sport will be appointing a new chairman under the usual procedure for filling public service roles.
