A DEPUTY headteacher is demanding traffic calming measures be placed at a notorious roundabout after a young boy was knocked down.
Paramedics had to strap the victim to a back brace after he was hit by a maroon Saab on Childwall’s Fiveways roundabout at 3.30pm yesterday.
The boy, a Year Seven pupil at Childwall School Specialist Sports College, was taken by ambulance to Alder Hey A&E. .
Tim Alderman, deputy headteacher at the school, was first on the scene.
He renewed his calls for more safety measures at the roundabout which regularly sees minor accidents.
“Luckily, the last time we had an accident was back in Christ- mas 2006 but safety on the roundabout and surrounding roads is a huge worry. We have staff out after school helping the children to cross the roads safely because there’s always bumps and scrapes between cars.
“We have asked Liverpool Council to put up signs and a pedestrian crossing, but it comes down to priorities and it won’t get done until someone is killed.”
A spokesman for Liverpool City Council admitted: “We have lots of requests for pedestrian crossings and we have to prior- itise those with a higher acci- dent record. Nevertheless, we will look at the situation in relation to yesterday’s accident.”
The youngster was recovering overnight having been accompanied by his mother to hospital. His injuries are not thought be life threatening.
