Hunt for 1,000 fans for AFC Liverpool football club

A CAMPAIGN to set up a new amateur Liverpool Football Club was launched with a drive to seek 1,000 supporters to join.

The new non-league AFC Liverpool was formally established last week, and is aimed at Liverpool fans who feel they have been priced out of Anfield.

The 1K Campaign is seeking 1,000 Liverpool supporters to become founder members of the new club, as well as sponsors from the business community.

Alun Parry, 37, of Wavertree, who is leading the scheme, said: “LFC is one of the most sensitive clubs when it comes to ticket prices but it’s still close to £40 to watch a match.

“AFC Liverpool is for those passionate Liverpool fans to once again watch football together, singing the same songs, wearing the same colours, and alongside the same people – without it costing a fortune.”

The 10-strong group of fans insist the club will not be an alternative to Liverpool FC.
