A NEW music project in Wirral is giving young people first-hand experience of organising, promoting and staging gigs.
The Live ‘n’ Loud scheme is being run under the auspices of Wirral Youth Theatre’s Sound Steps and Pacific Road Arts Centre.
Liam Corcoran, music development worker with Wirral Council, said: “These gigs are giving the young people working on this project a real taste of life in the music industry and they have responded magnificently, organising and promoting the gigs themselves, getting the bands, even down to things like sorting out refreshments and media coverage.
“There’s a common misconception that the music industry isn't a ‘proper job’, but music is one of this country's biggest exports, worth almost £5bn.
“As a council, we're working hard to raise young people's aspirations, and projects such as these not only give the young people invaluable experience in performing, management and marketing, but also open their minds to opportunities they might not have considered before.”
Future events at Pacific Road include: Tuesday April 1 an Open Mic Night, featuring a rare acoustic appearance by Alexis Blue.
