MP takes time out from conference to visit farmers’ market

LEADING Liberal Democrat MP Tim Farron took time out of his party’s national conference in Liverpool to visit a farmers’ market in Wirral.

Voted the Best Farmers’ Market in the country – according to BBC Radio Four – the MP dropped in to the award-winning market in New Ferry, and spoke to a number of traders.

He said: “By cutting out the middle man, it allows farmers to sell their goods for more profit, while still providing the customer with a cheaper price for their goods – an example of sustainable, green farming in action, benefiting everyone in the community, except perhaps supermarket shareholders.”

He then went back to the party’s National Conference to praise Wirral Farmers’ Market.

Local councillor Steve Niblock said: “Yet again, our Farmers’ Market has hit the national stage.

“From winning a regeneration award, a volunteers award and the Best Farmers’ Market award, we are now known in Parliament by people of influence.”
