WHEN bosses at Knowsley Safari Park placed their order for this season’s staff uniforms, they included one unusual request.
Among the normal selection of small, medium and large sizes, they asked for one uniform to be made in a puppy fitting.
The little coat is now being worn with pride by three-month-old Jack Russell and Patterdale terrier cross Diesel who has been adopted as the office dog by Safari Park employees.
Diesel belongs to park receptionist Sarah Abbey and was hand reared from a few days old. His mother died of an infection following the birth of a litter of nine pups.
Initially, because he was so young, Diesel could not be left alone so Sarah had to bring him into work to keep an eye on him and provide regular feeds.
Although he could now stay at home, Diesel still accompanies Sarah every day and has become a firm favourite with the park’s staff.
Sarah said: “People are very fond of Diesel. Like a lot of Jack Russells he’s a real character.
“I always say he’s a small dog with a big dog’s attitude.”
