Volunteer lawyers needed as mentors

LIVERPOOL John Moores University’s Legal Practice Course (LPC) is appealing for volunteers for its solicitor mentor scheme.

Students are placed with a firm or solicitor for a maximum two-day period, doing work in a field of law in which the student has an interest.

More than 50 local solicitors took part last year. Students were placed with commercial firms, high street firms, in-house solicitors, magistrates, local authorities and welfare rights agencies.

Carol Maginn, of the LPC, said: “For our students, it is an invaluable opportunity to see the law they are studying in practice. Whether it’s sitting in on a client interview, or conference with counsel, or just shadowing the solicitor in their day-to-day work, students find it hugely rewarding.
