A MURDER inquiry has been launched after a 64-year-old man was killed in an arson attack on his home.
David Gard was found in his Kensington house on Adelaide Road at 4.20am yesterday morning.
The widower, who had learning difficulties, was rushed to the Royal Liverpool Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Police are still investigating the blaze and last night announced the incident was an official murder inquiry.
Neighbours claim Mr Gard was targeted by drug users and prostitutes who befriended him after his wife died 18 months ago.
They stayed in his house and concerned residents helped him change his phone number and contacted social services about the issue.
Mr Gard was believed to be deaf but turned off his hearing aid at night.
