Pensioner arson fire death: Police make second arrest

A second man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Liverpool widower David Gard.

Mr Gard, 64, was found after he became trapped in a blaze at his home in Adelaide Road, Kensington.

A post-mortem examination revealed he had also suffered head injuries and a murder probe was launched.

A 26-year-old man from Birkenhead, who was arrested over the weekend, remains in custody and a second man, aged 48 and from Wavertree, has also been detained for questioning.

Mr Gard, who was deaf, lost his wife Patricia 18 months ago and lived alone.
