New centre to help drug addicts

A TREATMENT centre to help drug addicts quit heroin opened in Liverpool yesterday.

Former Everton striker Graeme Sharp officially opened the unit at Brook Place in Tuebrook.

The centre is run by the Mersey Care NHS trust and helps users to wean themselves off hard drugs.

A spokesman said: “The service aims to bring some stability to drug users’ chaotic lives and their dependency on heroin or their need to fund addiction through crime.”

The opening coincided with a city-wide campaign to encourage drug users to seek fast-track treatment and detoxification for their addiction.

The campaign, Get Clean, has a freephone number to arrange treatment.
