Farmers have a food message for the nation

Farmers have a food message for the nation

AROUND 30 farmers from across the UK descended on a Wirral farm to find out how it is blazing a trail on reuniting people with food.

The farmers originally met around a year ago on a “Speak Out” course run by the Leaf (Linking Environment and Farming) organisation.

Speak Out is aimed at getting farmers talking, whether it is to schools, consumers or getting people to visit farms and find out where their food comes from.

Yesterday Andrew Pimbley of Claremont Farm near Bebington played host to the Speak Out group who had a chance to catch up, take part in some workshops, and enjoy a lunch made with local producer.

The group saw the Claremont Kitchen, run by master chef Brian Mellor, which has recently opened on the farm and is generating a lot of interest from schools and different groups.

The idea is to show children how vegetables are grown, let them pick some of their own and see it transferred into tasty dishes.
