Jail for banned drink driver

AN ALCOHOLIC father has been jailed after being caught drink driving twice – despite being banned.

William Reid was spared prison in 2006 after he was seen driving dangerously in busy streets around a primary school during rush hour school traffic.

But Reid, 51, ignored the warning of the judge and just 10 days before the end of a suspended sentence, on June 18 last year, he was again caught by police behind the wheel.

When officers stopped him he was more than three times over the drink drive limit.

And just months later in February, Reid was seen again behind the wheel after drinking.

Yesterday Judge Charles James said he had no choice but to send the alcoholic to prison.

He sentenced Reid, of Summerhill Drive in Maghull, to six months in prison and banned him from driving for a further three years.

The court had heard Reid turned to alcohol after the death of his wife Veronica in 1997.
