Jets beat Tigers as basketball makes arena debut
AROUND 6,000 spectators saw two local teams battle it out last night as basketball came to the Echo Arena, Liverpool for the first time.
Cheshire Jets beat Everton Tigers in the derby showdown, which was also televised live on Setanta Sports.
It was the biggest crowd for a British basketball game this season.
Both teams compete in the British Basketball League – the sport’s equivalent of the Premier League.
This is the debut season for the Everton Tigers, formed when the football club teamed up with basketball side Toxteth Tigers.
Young Everton FC stars Victor Anichebe and James Vaughan were both in the crowd.
The Tigers normally play at the Greenbank Academy.
The final score was Everton Tigers 80, Cheshire Jets 103.
