LABOUR MPs in the region were accused of hypocrisy yesterday after fighting to save local post offices - only to back the controversial closure programme at Westminster.
“I present petitions, which I support, on behalf of 4,000 constituents with regard to the proposed closure of the Aintree road and Daleacre Drive post offices in my Bootle constituency”.
Joe Benton (Bootle)
“These Post Offices are hubs of local activity. Their closure would be a big blow to the communities they serve and there will be much concern.”
Ben Chapman (Wirral South)
“Here in Formby, we have an active campaign to keep the post office going, and I support it 100%.”
Claire Curtis-Thomas (Crosby)
“I continue to be dismayed at Post Office Ltd’s plans to close local offices which offer a vital service, particularly for the elderly and those unable to travel further afield.”
Louise Ellman (Liverpool Riverside)
“I had a meeting with the Post Office and started off by saying they were having the third bite of the cherry in Ellesmere Port and Neston”.
Andrew Miller (Ellesmere Port and Neston)
“...was pleased Brook Street Post Office had been saved. She held two meetings with Post Office senior management to protest”.
Christine Russell (Chester)
