Churches gather to tell Easter story

CHRISTIANS from churches across Merseyside braved chilly temperatures to celebrate Easter with an annual Walk of Witness.

Ten congregations took part in Churches Together’s walk at Mossley Hill from Dovedale Baptist Church, Dovedale Road, to the Wavertree Christian Fellowship, Wavertree.

While Hesketh Park, Southport, saw a production of Passion 08.

The Liverpool Walk, which began at midday yesterday, is a commemoration of Good Friday and allows Christians to unite in a statement of their beliefs.

In Southport, the Reverend Richard Vernon, of Elim Christian Centre, Manchester Road, said: “The Walk Of Witness gives the opportunity for Christians and a group of churches to come together and remember.”

Followers from seven churches gathered at North Sefton Magistrates’ Court on Albert Road and made their way to the Princess Diana Memorial Gardens where a short service was held.

Passion 08 starred David Lonsdale from TV series Heartbeat.
