Charity runner sets off for Great Wall of China
A MOTHER of three from Liverpool is running the Great Wall of China to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Pam Morgan, 42, from Tuebrook, hopes to raise £5,000 by completing the Great Wall of China Marathon on May 17.
Pam decided to enter the race, which incorporates around 26 miles and 3,700 steps, in memory of her mother who died last year.
She said: “I had the great idea to try and beat the challenges life throws at me by choosing one myself, and I wanted to do something in memory of my mum, Heather Groves, as she touched so many hearts.”
In 2007, Pam also lost several close friends, and her father suffered a heart attack.
Her mother suffered from asthma, but her uncle died from lung cancer and Pam chose Macmillan Cancer Support because she felt her mother was as loving and caring as some of the Macmillan Nurses she has met.
She added: “Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer.”
Pam is now in training and taking part in races in the build up to the big event. On Mother’s Day she ran the Paris Half Marathon, and a week later completed the Ballycotton 10-mile run.
On March 30 Pam will abseil down the multistory car park next to the Malmaison hotel.
