LAST night executive board members denied that the resignation marked a rift in the Lib-Dems.
Cllr Storey added: “This has nothing to do with cracks in the party.”
Cllr Berni Turner, executive member for environment, said that the board remained a “strong team” and that Cllr Clein’s move was “childish”.
Cllr Peter Millea, executive member for corporate services, said the resignation was “a disappointing loss of a valuable colleague”, but not indicative of any plot against the current leadership of the council.
“People keep talking about some plot to remove Warren but no-one has ever mentioned it to me, and I’ve never heard anything about it. We’re just getting on with the job,” he said.
Cllr Clein’s brother, Cllr Eddie Clein, paid tribute to his efforts on the executive board.
He said: “He has turned us from the worst performing local education authority in the whole country into what’s now recognised as the second best Local Education Authority.
“Paul is a conviction politician. He's done an incredible job in office.”
