Appeal launched as Red Cross asks: Could you cope with an emergency?

THE Red Cross yesterday launched an appeal for Liverpool to get prepared for possible emergencies.

The North West Emergency Response Appeal is an attempt by the organisation to make Liverpool better prepared for emergencies from natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes and fires.

A recent study revealed that, although much of the population have the intention to prepare for an emergency, relatively few people have actually done anything about it.

The Appeal hopes to get six new ambulances and assist in the training of 20,000 people in life- saving skills.

Speaking at ACC Liverpool, Merseyside operations director John Sutherland said: “In today’s climate, natural disasters are on the increase and the risk of terrorism is at an all-time high, so it is important that we are prepared for an emergency in Liverpool as well as the rest of the North West.

“We are appealing to the people of Liverpool to donate to the appeal. It is imperative that we are prepared.”

The appeal has already raised £700,000 and is looking to raise £900,000 more.

For donations to the North West Emergency Response Appeal call John Sutherland on 0151 702 5154, e-mail jsutherland@redcross.org.uk or send your cheques to Bradbury House, Brunswick Business Park, Tower Street, Liverpool, L3 4BG.
