TWENTY arrests were made after a series of police raids yesterday which uncovered a DVD factory in the Kensington area of Liverpool. Around 7,000 DVDs were seized at the house in Empress Road by police and trading standards officers.
Nine search warrants were executed around the Tuebrook, Kensington, Stoneycroft and Fairfield areas.
The raids targeted those responsible for crimes including burglary, theft and car crime, which are generally committed to provide cash for drug users.
Closure orders were also made on three properties as part of the crackdown on illegal drugs and anti-social behaviour.
Man arrested after brawl
POLICE last night ruled out claims that shots were fired during a large fight in Skelmersdale in the early hours of yesterday. Five people were taken to hospital after the fight broke out outside the Quarry Bank community club, on Ormskirk Road, at 1.30am. All have since been discharged. It was thought a weapon may have been fired but police have since said there is no evidence that that was the case. A 28-year-old man from Skelmersdale has been arrested on suspicion of assault and violent disorder.
Pressure clue
LOWERING blood pressure among elderly patients could cut death rates by a fifth and heart problems by a third, a study has revealed. A trial co-ordin-ated by a team from Imperial College London showed that giving over-80s medication to decrease blood pressure cut the mortality rate by 21% and heart problems by 34%. It also reduced fatal strokes by 39% and heart failure by 64%.
Kensit split
PATSY KENSIT has split from the man who was to be her fourth husband. The actress, who celebrated her 40th birthday last month, was set to marry in the summer after falling for DJ Jeremy Healy, 46, in August.
Bull jailed
A BULL has been jailed in Mexico after locals claimed he devoured their corn crops and destroyed two wooden shops. The judge of Canalumtic, police commander Felipe Gomez, jailed the bull until its owner, Moises Santiz, pays for the damages.
