08 bus at terminus after year of promotion

AFTER a year of touring Merseyside, the 08 Roadshow bus is ending its journey.

The double-decker bus, described as a “roving information centre”, toured the city and beyond spreading the news about Capital of Culture events.

With its maiden journey in March last year, culture bosses have decided the bus is no longer needed now 2008 is upon us.

Last January, workshops were held across the city giving community groups and individuals a chance to express themselves through art in the run-up to Capital of Culture.

Professional artist Donna Berry and Tamasine Seibold kicked off the roadshow tour and during the last year, the bus is estimated to have reached more than 40,000 people.

Along with a plush new exterior, the Arriva bus, was fitted with interactive terminals displaying cultural information also provided a special upstairs screening area, and two large exhibitions.

The bus visited libraries, shopping centres, one stop shops, community centres and outdoor events.

Kris Donaldson, director of the Liverpool Culture Company, said: “More than 40,000 people visited the bus on the road, but now that we’ve arrived in the year itself there’s much greater awareness about 2008.”
