A WOMAN has died after being hit by a lorry on the M62.
Police closed a section of the motorway shortly after the accident, which involved a woman in her 40s, who was on foot at the time of collision.
Huge tailbacks are currently lining the motorway between junctions 11 and 12 near Birchwood. One lane was reopened at 3.30pm but police are unsure when the remaining two lanes will be in use again.
An air ambulance treated the woman but she died at the scene.
A car has been found on the hard shoulder, and a spokesman said Cheshire Constabulary were looking into the “strong possibility” it belonged to the women.
The traffic jam has affected football fans on the way to Liverpool’s match with Arsenal which kicks off at 7.45pm.
