Children offer prayers to mark anniversary of Rwandan genocide
CHILDREN from a number of schools lit candles for peace at a Rwandan genocide remembrance event held at Liverpool town hall yesterday.
The ceremony, which included prayers and one minute silence, marked the 14th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide.
As a recipient of Rwandan refugees, the city hosts a yearly event to promote understanding and awareness of the subject. Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Paul Clark said: “The Rwandan genocide was an all-too-recent human tragedy on a vast scale.
“We wanted to give people in the city the opportunity to support all those affected by genocide and show our determination to ensure that such atrocities never happen again.”
