Woman dies in motorway tragedy

A LIVERPOOL woman died after being hit by a lorry on the M62 in Cheshire yesterday afternoon.

The accident happened just before 2.30pm on the westbound carriageway of the motorway, near junction 11 at Birchwood. Police said the 45-year-old woman, from Garston, had stopped her green Ford Focus on the hard shoulder.

She left the car and was struck by a heavy goods vehicle on the main carriageway, receiving fatal injuries.

The lorry driver was uninjured in the collision but was left extremely shaken, Cheshire Police said.

The woman’s next of kin have been informed.

Police asked for witnesses to call 0845 458 0000.
