A RUGBY player was last night in a critical but stable condition at Liverpool’s Walton Centre, after falling 25ft through a shed roof, days before the biggest game of his life.
Builder and farmer Aled Evans, who plays for Chester Rugby Club, sustained severe head, leg and arm injuries trying to repair asbestos roofing at a farm near Dolgellau, North Wales, on Thursday.
On Saturday, his team mates dedicated their triumph at Twickenham to the 29-year-old flanker who had been set to play in the EDF Intermediate Cup Final win against Birkenhead Park.
Last night, his parents Goronwy, 72 and Menai, 66, were clinging to hope their son will pull through. Aled’s brother, Dylan, said the family are praying for his recovery.
“Every hour is important – at the moment Aled is the same – not better or worse.”
Head coach Rob Foden dedicated the team’s 21-18 victory to Aled.
