Flatmates face questions over university student’s death in dock

AN INQUEST into the death of a 20-year old student, whose body was found at Liverpool’s Canning Dock, was opened yesterday.

The body of Jordan Joseph McGuire was found on Friday, April 11.

Coroners officer, Jeanette Lesbirel, confirmed to the court that Mr McGuire was helped by a passer-by but he died at the scene.

Mr McGuire was born in Liverpool and was studying at university in Leeds.

The court heard he was visiting his family in the Easter holidays: his uncle was the last person to see him alive.

Mr McGuire was identified by his mother, Lorraine Rock, of Marybone Road, Liverpool.

No cause of death has yet been established, but coroner Andre Rebello urged officers to contact his flatmates and peers in Leeds to determine his frame of mind.

Mr Rebello said: “We need to check if he said anything to his colleagues in Leeds.”

A post-mortem has been withheld pending toxicology and histology reports, and there is no criminal investigation. The inquest will be re-opened on June 23.
