Safety ‘not always first’
PARENTS at Broadgreen primary were divided over the slip-on shoes.
Carole Pover, 50, whose granddaughter wears lace-ups to school in Old Swan, said: “If the shoes aren’t sensible, I don’t think the children should wear them.”
But Jane Morgan, 34, claimed safety wasn’t always the school’s first priority.
She was told off for sending her daughter to school in trainers.
She said: “I bought her some white trainers to wear with her summer dress but her teacher said she wasn’t allowed them.
“The head said they weren’t part of the uniform and looked a mess after a few weeks.”
Adam Atkinson, 24, said he thought children would fall over regardless of their footwear
He said: “I don’t think this will make much difference. In fact, I think the pumps are a little better for children because they let their feet move around.”
Angela Mousey’s daughter wears the pumps to school.
The 33-year-old said: “She’s worn them for six months and had no trouble. I don’t think they are that slippery.
“Parents buy them because they are only £3 or £4 and children get through so many pairs of shoes.”
