Second teenager held after youth dies in crash

A SECOND teenager has been arrested after a man was killed in a car crash in Bootle as police followed in an unmarked vehicle.

The 18-year-old from Kirkdale, who is still in hospital with head injuries, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A 17-year-old from Kirkdale died and four others were hurt in the collision on Derby Road, Bootle around 8pm on Thursday.

A Lexus driver travelling towards the centre lost control and travelled into the path of an oncoming van.

The deceased was a passenger in the Lexus.

A 17-year-old youth was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving on Thursday night.

At the time of the collision, the Lexus and a Skoda were being followed by officers in an unmarked car. The matter has now been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Two of the injured remained in hospital last night.
