Archbishop leads walkers to defy poor weather
THE Archbishop of Liverpool led the first themed walk of the summer yesterday.
The Rev Patrick Kelly will lead a series of five walks around the theme Walking in Faith.
They are part of the Archdiocese of Liverpool’s calendar of events to celebrate 2008 Capital of Culture.
Walkers braved damp conditions and met at St Anthony’s Church in Scotland Road.
Archbishop Patrick Kelly said: “Walking is the gift of these coming weeks for us, a time to talk over our story, its sharing in joys and sorrow, in fears and longing.
“On our walks we want the Lord’s own word to be the light by which we understand, evaluate, refine our story.”
Mgr Peter Fleetwood, priest of St Joseph’s, Blundellsands, who co-ordinates the archdiocese events, said: “Our first walk celebrates our history as Catholics in Liverpool. Everybody is welcome. You need not be a Catholic or even a believer.”
