A RACECOURSE worker who was mown down by a runaway horse at Haydock Park has died.
Malcolm Siberry, 63, died on Saturday at Fazakerley Hospital’s critical care unit, a week after the accident.
He was crushed by the David Nicholls-trained Pure Imagination after the horse got loose before the start of the third race and crashed through a running rail.
Mr Siberry, of Newton-le-Willows, near St Helens, was manning a crossing into the centre of the course letting vehicles through.
The British Horseracing Authority has promised to co-operate fully with the Health and Safety Executive following the death of Mr Siberry.
"It's desperately sad news and our thoughts are with Mr Siberry's family. There will be a full investigation by the Health and Safety Executive and we will assist them in any way we can," said Paul Struthers, the BHA's PR manager.
