Youngsters get their say on the future of West Kirby
YOUNG people from a west Wirral seaside resort were among the first to be asked their opinions on how the town should be redeveloped.
Students from Hilbre High School in West Kirby met with the architect behind the scheme which could change the face of the town for the next generation.
Architect Christopher Egret, who has worked with Sir Norman Foster, Ian Ritchie, John McAslan and more recently Will Alsop met Year 10 art and design pupils.
They also teamed up with chef, Paul Askew from London Carriage-works Restaurant at the Hope Street Hotel, Liverpool, which is also to be part of the new project.
Deputy head at Hilbre High School, Sally Beevers, said she was delighted that her students were involved in this community-based project.
She said: “It is a fantastic opportunity for students to broaden their horizons and have the opportunity to contribute to their own community.
“It will help develop our students into wider-thinking citizens with a sense of community aspiration.” The event was organised by former teacher Sarah Beer, from Carpenter Investments – the development company who have been chosen by Wirral Council to develop a new sailing school and hotel along the town’s popular seafront.
