Young offenders hit the right notes for Princess Royal

PRINCESS Anne met staff and was treated to a musical per- formance on a visit to Thorn Cross young offenders prison near Warrington yesterday .

The centre, at Appleton Thorn, is a purpose-built open young offender institution, catering for prisoners aged between 18 and 25.

A group of them played the Rocky theme tune and The Great Escape on brass instruments during the Princess Royal’s visit.

The musical performance came about thanks to a project organised by Ewan Easton, music instructor from the Halle Symphony Orchestra, in Manchester, which teaches offenders how to play a brass instrument, and to read and perform music.
