Gunshots near shops prompt police patrols

GUNSHOTS were fired close to shops in Huyton on Tuesday.

The incident, which happened during the evening, on Hillside Road, caused damage to shutters and a window of one of the establishments.

The store was closed at the time and no-one was injured.

House-to-house inquiries are taking place in the area and high-visibility police patrols have been stepped up.

Crime scene investigators have recovered significant evidence at the scene and police have secured CCTV footage.

Det Chief Superintendent Steve Moore, head of the specialist Matrix team, said: “Merseyside Police thoroughly investigates all incidents of gun crime and we will not tolerate firearms incidents on the streets of Merseyside.

“Fortunately, no-one was injured in this incident, but that doesn't mean that it will be treated any less seriously.”
