WIRRAL children’s hospice Claire House celebrated its 10th anniversary last night with a special event.
The charity was set up by Chris Cain in memory of her daughter Claire who passed away in 1988 aged just nine.
Speaking at the fundraising ball called A Night To Remember at Thornton Manor, Mrs Cain said setting up the hospice had helped her and her family through the trauma of losing Claire.
Mrs Cain added: “Claire would have been nearly 10 when she died and Claire House has been open nearly 10 years, so this is a special time for us.
“To see so many people here is an amazing feeling.
“It is so emotional.
“Claire’s best friend, Joelle Fenna, is here, as are her teachers from New Brighton Primary and the families of patients past and present.”
Violin player Joelle played music to Claire to help her cope with her illness.
Mrs Cain added: “The hospice is a special place and this has been a very special night.”
The hospice, in Bebington, relies largely on goodwill to pay the £2m annually needed to keep the hospice doors open.
An auction to help boost funds was compered by Roger Phillips.
