Fake DVDs seized in raid

HUNDREDS of pirate DVDs were discovered after a raid in Wavertree.

Trading Standards officers led the operation on Thursday night which saw the arrest of two people for possession of hundreds of pirate DVDs including copies of the newly-released film Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr.

Assisted by Merseyside Police, the operation focused on alleged Chinese gangs who sell fake DVDs in bars and pubs on Wavertree High Street. Trading Standards officers also seized a car, hundreds of DVDs including hardcore pornography and a large sum of cash.

The operation targeted the Wavertree area of the city following complaints from pub licensees.

A Liverpool City Council spokesman said: “I was particularly disturbed to see that hardcore pornography that cannot even be sold in a licensed sex shop was being peddled round the streets.”

One suspect was bailed to allow further enquiries to be made and Dai Li Lei, 25, of St Ambrose Grove, Liverpool, appeared in custody at the city’s magistrates’ court yesterday morning charged under the Copyright Designs and Patents Act. She was remanded in custody.
