A MAN was pulled out of the River Mersey by rescuers.

A MAN was pulled out of the River Mersey by rescuers.

It is not known how the 20-year-old came to be in the water at Stanley Dock not far from the Heritage Market at about 11am on Saturday.

A special rescue team from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service hauled him to safety after being alerted by shoppers.

The man, who is said to be suffering from hypothermia, was given first aid on the scene before being taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital for treatment.
