‘Shadow’ leader’s promise

THE new leader of one of the country’s newest local councils last night promised to focus on “value for money services” and work with council employees facing job losses.

Mike Jones was elected Conservative councillor for Broxton in the shadow Chester and West Cheshire authority.

In last week’s elections, the Conserva-tives easily beat Labour into second place.

The authority will act as a “shadow council” for the next year before taking power from Ellesmere Port & Neston, Chester, Vale Royal and Chesh-ire County councils.
